A long Atlantic beach, year-round sun and the gateway to southern Morocco
Agadir is Morocco's purpose-built beach resort — an almost entirely new city constructed after a 1960 earthquake destroyed the original. What emerged was a rational, walkable resort town with a magnificent 10km beach along the Atlantic, a mild year-round climate and enough infrastructure for families and package tourists to have a comfortable holiday without the intensity of Marrakech or Fez. The beach itself is the main attraction: wide, gently sloping and backed by a promenade of cafés and restaurants. Agadir serves equally well as a base for exploring the foothills of the Anti-Atlas mountains and the souk culture of Tiznit and Taroudant.
When to go: Warm and sunny year-round. Summer (June–September) can be very hot. April–June and September–November are ideal.
The best months to visit Agadir are June, July, August. Peak season is August with the best combination of warm temperatures and low rainfall.
