Medieval city walls, marble streets and a sea of translucent Adriatic blue
Dubrovnik is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval cities in Europe — its limestone walls rising sheer from the Adriatic, enclosing a car-free Old Town of baroque churches, Renaissance fountains and marble-paved streets polished to a mirror shine by centuries of feet. The city gained international fame as a filming location for Game of Thrones, but its real power lies in its extraordinary completeness: within the walls, very little has changed since the 18th century. Beyond the city, the Dalmatian coast stretches north and south through a landscape of karst limestone, pine forests and islands that are among the Mediterranean's most unspoilt.
