Hurghada is Egypt's largest Red Sea resort — a sprawling city of hotels and dive centres that has been welcoming European package tourists since the 1980s. The Red Sea here justifies its reputation: the coral reefs offshore, including Giftun Island National Park, contain an extraordinary diversity of hard and soft corals, reef sharks, rays, sea turtles and colourful fish that make every snorkel and dive a memorable experience. The sea is warm year-round, the weather is reliable with 320+ days of sunshine, and prices are substantially lower than comparable diving destinations in southeast Asia or the Maldives.
