Lavender fields, Renaissance piazzas and Croatia's most glamorous island
Hvar is Croatia's most celebrated island — a long, thin strip of the Dalmatian coast famous for its lavender fields, its Renaissance town, its party boats and its extraordinary clarity of Adriatic water. Hvar Town, the island's capital, has one of the most beautiful squares in the Adriatic: the Trg Sv. Stjepana, anchored by a 17th-century cathedral and flanked by the Venetian Arsenal. The island's south coast, facing the Pakleni Islands (reachable by water taxi), has some of Croatia's finest swimming spots — particularly Milna and Dubovica. The lavender blooms in June, filling the interior with purple colour and fragrance.
