The Blue Hole, Ras Mohammed reef and the Red Sea at its most dramatic
Sharm el-Sheikh sits at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, where the Gulf of Aqaba meets the Red Sea in waters of extraordinary clarity and marine richness. The Blue Hole near Dahab — a 130m-deep underwater sinkhole — is one of the world's most famous and most dangerous dive sites. Ras Mohammed National Park, just south of the city, contains some of the Red Sea's finest reef diving, with hammerhead sharks, tuna, barracuda and extraordinary coral gardens. The town itself is a fully modern resort with excellent hotels, water parks and a well-organised tourist infrastructure that makes it one of Egypt's most visited destinations.
